Need help fast problem w/suse

I just installed a hdd w/suse linux on my virgin webplayer. and when I use the command startx, it gives me an error saying that the vid card in the player can't hit the resolution that i'm set at. i know there is a file that I can manually set this information, but i don't know where it is. or how to set it. If there is anyone out there that can help. Please do.

the file you want is XF86config-4

located here /etc/X11/
usually ....sometimes Suse puts things in different places

thanks it's a netpliance, used to strictly browse the internet on a 56k modem. I moded it to use a hard drive and overclocked it. to use it as a little linux box to learn linux so i don't have to make a full computer. really neat only cost me 35 dollars and had the spare parts lying around for the rest. only thing i need is a usb ethernet adaptor to make it complete.

i used sax suse's auto detected everything it was awsome it all works great.

actually i spoke too soon but yast worked. Ya x works, a little slow but it's up now i have something i can learn linux on that's not as expensive as a pc and little enough that i can have running right by my pc. here's a question for the ages, should i use kde or gnome?

oh now you've done it, that's one of the most hotly contested things in linux!!😉

I prefer kde, especially since kde3 is out.

but gnome 2 was released today, both have pluses and minuses, if you have the room put both on!😀

If that network appliance is a tiny machine (in relative terms), you'd probably want to use a lighter-weight window manager rather than a full-on "desktop environment". I.e. WindowMaker or blackbox.

those are other window managers other than gnome or kde. they are smaller and need less resources
