I need to build a 2.4ghz P4 Lab Station for a fast test system. I have been in AMD world for a couple of years and am not that familiar with the P4 chipsets and MoBos.

I have seen a lot of good press on the P4B533-V MoBo and I believe that this is the board that I will go with, but am confused as to the different versions.

There is a lot of talk about a -V version, but when I go to NewEgg they only have the P4B533 and P43533-VM, but no P4B533-V. The -VM is obviously a cost reduced board, but is there a difference between the P4B533 and P4B533-V.

I need to order parts ASAP, but need a bit of guidance.

Also, we will not be overclocking this system, so would this be a good setup?

1) P4B533-?
2) P4 2.4ghz (price)
3) 2 sticks Crucial PC2700 DDR Ram
4) Stock heatsink and fan

Thanks for any help,

Andy,

Thanks for the quick response.
Great rundown, short and to the point.

I am given to understand that the P4B533 also has a dip switch to set the mem ratio, where the others have it in BIOS, do youknow if this is true?

Also: If not overclocking, would the P4B533 be a good board for a test platform, I do not need integrated video, sound or lan, or should I go for the P4B533-V, and simply disable the onboard stuff?

I do need good stock speed and stability.
