Okay, well somehow my BIOS in my ASUS P3V4X motherboard got fried, and I don't feel like waiting for the manufacturer to send me a computer. I'm working on a thesis, and I need to access my data and a computer to work on it. I'm desperate and on my way to MWAVE's site in the City of Industry...

So I'm limited to the stock at MWave

I'm an Intel freak, so for sure I want a P4 system, and probably an ASUS motherboard. Whats the difference between 423, and 478 pins on the P4's? And what good motherboard do you recommend from ASUS? Thanks!

If you want a DDRAM motherboard get these parts:

Asus P4S333
Pentium 4 1.5GHz(socket 478)
Mwave 256MB NON-ECC PC2100

Assembled and Tested for $344 - I know thats over $300 but its a nice setup. You should be able to hit 1.8-1.9GHz if you overclock that 1.5GHz using the stock heatsink and fan.

rob3rt, the beauty of the Asus P4S333 board is that you don't have to get a new p.s. w/ the additional 4 wire square plug required by the P4. Asus has this thing called an EZ Plug that lets you use a regular hard drive/CD drive power plug to supply the additional voltage. You must have edited your original message re the $300 limit. You'll have a hard time getting under $300 w/ a P4 setup, but Diable got you close.

Avoid the 423 pin P4's and mobos, they're dead end. 478 gives you (as much as one can get these days) more life from the board.
