Need help fast: help with cat5 wiring

I am having my satellite installer install a cat5 run to my bedroom, but he does not know anything about how to wire it, as do i. Can some one tell me how to do this? Here is a link to my post on the networking forum. Thanks.

Straight through

It depends on if your running it into a hub or straight from one computer to another computer.

this is the way i do CAT5 straight through:

1greenwhite 2green 3orangewhite 4blue 5bluewhite 6orange 7brownwhite 8brown

follow that at both ends and your straight through cable will be done.

Cat5 spec calls for this color code for a straight cable

orangewhite orange greenwhite blue bluewhite green brownwhite brown


For a cross over make one end with the above pinout and the other end like this

greenwhite green orangewhite brownwhite brown orange blue bluewhite

That will work for 100baseTX
