Need help dual booting WinME and Mandrake 7.0

I have a 40 gig harddrive that i was wanting basically split in half give 20 gigs to WinME and 20 gigs to Mandrake... Is this possible? And if so what do i need to used to be able to do this? All help greatly appreciated.. THX

Not difficult -- essentially you just partition it like this:

0-20GB: FAT32
20-39GB: ext2

Of course, you'll want to have some room left to have a Linux swap partition, so keep that in mind.

If you already have windows installed, you'll have to use something like Partition Magic to shrink down the existing partition to 20GB. Linux installs typically let you partition your hard drive during OS installation (or it can use existing partitions, of course). Windows gives you much less control and will use up all the space it can usually.

After you get Linux installed, you'll want to use LILO (LInux LOader) to boot Linux and Windows. You can install it to the MBR.

Make sure you are using an older version of Mandrake (7.1, 7.2). Otherwise, the 1024th cylinder booting issue may bite you. Read the sig for much more info than you need.

ok, well i can't even try to load linux yet was attmpting install of mandrake 7.0 but it doesn't support my promise ata100 (on board) controller so i am unable to find the hard drive. Anyone know of any builds of linux that will? THX
