Need Help! Does System Restore in Win Me modify the MBR?

Does anyone know if the System Restore Utility in Windows Me modifies the MBR? Norton AV is detecting a change, but does not recognize it as a virus. The changes could be from somewhere else, and since I did not add a hard drive, repartition or upgrade the OS, the only thing I can think of is System Restore. I don't want to take the chance of restoring an old MBR and screw up my system. Any ideas?
 
MS rarely has an issue with changing your MBR without asking, so I would guess it did. Try using the linux installation you had before you installed win98 and you'll see what I mean.
