Hey guys. Im back!

I have dsl and have had this problem ever since i got the service.

On the front of my Effecient Speed stream modem it has 4 Leds- SYS-ATM-DSL-ENET

Heres my problem. I just switched to XP Pro the other day(love it btw), and when i go away it goes to the login screen after the screen saver has been on for a while. When I click on my login button the ATM light goes off. Then its like a minute or 2 before i can get any kind of internet connection. It was doing it when I had w98 also. All the other lights stay on, but the ATM will go. Its on while on the login screen, but right when i click the icon to login it goes off.

Any help please?

You should check the Efficient site to see exactly what that light means and what it's supposed to look like. (I forget off the top of my head).

This is a very strange problem, but if I remember correctly what the ATM light means, it will flash when there is data being sent out the WAN interface (ie. out the DSL connection). I believe it should be constant green otherwise.

Anyways, check the efficient site and see if you can find out exactly what the light is telling you.

I'm not familiar with the system, but it sounds like the PPPOA is timing out (no activity over a certain time period), and the Efficient has to re-log in...and for whatever reason, that's taking a long time (probably not the Efficient or your system....probably the provider).

Try calling their help desk to see 1.) if they're using PPPOA, 2.) What they believe a "normal" login/authentication time should be 3.) WtF is wrong with your unit/conection that it's taking so long...... 4.) Who do you have to talk to on their side to get it fixed.

Good Luck, Happy Holidays

Just got home. And when I had to login on XP the DSL light does go orange(not connected) for a short period. Then blinks a few times and the system comes back live.

It could be what either of you are saying. Ill look into it some more with alltel and effecient to try to resolve it.

Thanks for the tips.
