Here's the scenario:
Just changed the CPU fan for my new computer and then turned it on
When I turn it on,the fan runs and I see the light from the HDD and all,
but after a beep sound, it shuts down by itself. Anyone has this kind of trouble before?

Mobo: MSI 6380 E
(not overclocked)
CPU: AMD XP 2000+
CPU FAN(just changed to) : Volcano 9
Power supply: Enermax 350W

I'm quite worried that the CPU was fried or sometrhing.. i did add more thermalpaste .... for conductivity

Pls reply asap! Thanks!

2 things to look at. Are you sure that the cooler is on the right way? Is the cpu fan plugged into the right place on the motherboard.

Does that mobo have a setting in the Bios that powers down when it doesn't detect the CPU fan spinning? If the new fan is thermo controlled it may not be spinning fast enough at startup to keep from triggering that. On my Abit mobo any less than 2000 rpm and the fan speed is detected as NA and trips that setting if I have it enabled.

Thx to both replies.. here's the scenario

The CPU fan and HS is put on the right way... or else the temperature would have gone much higher ....

Regarding the power down thingy in the bios, I've already corrected that.

The computer has finally decided to "wake up" after i underclock it back... i.e. I was underclocking the first time at 100FSB and ti was stable... then I tried to increase it to 133 instead since that was supposed to be the default and the machine bailed on me...:(

Did you manually increase it to 133 in the bios (I mean incrementally)? Some mobos have a jumper on them to switch between 100/133/+ and then you can increment/decrement that from the bios. Sounds like it may be the case since it did run fine at 100.
