HI ANANDTECHERS,

I NEED HELP. I KNOW DELL HAS POWER AND CONNECTIVITY ISSUES, BUT MINE IS UNIQUE.
WHEN I PLUG IN THE AC ADAPTER INTO THE LAPTOP THE COMPUTER DOESNT READ IT. THEREFORE,
MY BATTERY DOESNT CHARGE AND I CANT USE THE COMPUTER USING THE AC ADAPTER ONLY AND NOW THAT THE
BATTERY IS DEAD MY LAPTOP DOESNT WORK. I KNOW THE ADAPTER WORKS BUT THE COMPUTER DOESNT READ IT.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS OR DO I HAVE TO BUY A NEW COMPUTER. WHAT ABOUT MY INFO, IS ALL THAT
LOST (I KNOW I CAN GET ANOTHER BATTERY, BUT BESIDES THAT). HELP ME REVIVE MY COMPUTER. I DONT HAVE DELL WARRANTY (RAN OUT) AND IF THEY TRY TO FIX IT, IT WILL PROBABLY COST ME AS MUCH AS A NEW COMPUTER.

PLEASE HELP AND THANKS IN ADVANCE.

hmm, I'd suggest hitting the caps lock key and then calling or emailing Dell customer service.

By the way, they do charge you just to look at your laptop if the warranty has expired, even if you say "no" to having them fix it.

Sounds like you will probably have to get the motherboard replaced, which would be pretty expensive. To get your data back, you can take out the HDD and purchase an adaptor so that you can attach it to a regular IDE cable as a slave drive.

I suppose the green led comes on when plugged in.
are you sure your cable isn't frayed as this is known to cause problems.

Could also be a bent pin or something in the power connector on the laptop. Had this issue with a few abusive users and their Dell laptops. Make sure the green LED comes on the power supply.
