Need help deciding which to get, Rock Band, SingStar or G.H.

Anyone have experience with all three? I have 3 girls who will be playing this. I can't make heads or tails from it since this isn't anything I'd ever play myself..

Thanks for any help..

What are their ages, and more importantly their musical tastes? Rock Band and Guitar Hero have quite a bit of diversity in the available songs, many different genres. Plus lots of downloadable content. I believe Singstar comes in a few different incarnations: 80's, Disney, etc.

Keep in mind that if you go the Rock Band or GH: World Tour route, you'll have a lot of plastic instruments to stow away when not playing. Also, don't be so certain that you yourself would never play these games -- there's bound to be some music in these games that you'll find yourself drawn to. 🙂

My personal preference is Rock Band all the way. I consider myself a hardcore music/rhythm gamer, and the Rock Band series gets nearly everything right. Many of the Harmonix staff (the company that developed RB) are musicians, and it shows in the game, it's very polished.

I think it really does depend on their musical taste and ages. I'd take a look at the song catalogs for the three games and see which your girls enjoy more.

Just realize that Singstar is straight Karaoke while Rock Band and Guitar Hero use instrument peripherals which makes playing a little more complex than karaoke.

Thanks for the tip! Can we use the mic from Rock Band and rent or buy Singstar? I see it's available without a mic.

where do you see the info about the gift card?

Singstar is crap. Also, it uses a proprietary mic adapter. The mics themselves are a common 2.5mm audio jack, but then they plug into a USB dongle that does 2 mics on one usb port. IIRC the game will not recognize a standalone usb mic.

I tried RB2 on vacation a few weeks ago - I'm in my 30s, a music lover and gamer, but I NEVER expected RB to be as fun as it was (didn't think I'd be into it at all).

I can't weigh in on RB vs anything else, but RB is an amazingly fun party game.

wouldn't that be software piracy since you don't own the original copy of rock band 1? I'm not sure what rockband policy is on this, if they allow it or not?

Easily Rock Band. After GH3 pissed me off, I tried RB and never looked back.

How did it piss you off? I was thinking about picking a copy at best buy for 9.99?

I would think girls would have more fun with Singstar, especially if you have the PS eye. RB seems like overkill.
