I am going to for sure now be upgrading to an SLI system very shortly hear. I have done some further research and have some questions that require some opinions/comments.

One of my wishlists at Newegg has the following in it:

Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (90 nm)
2 x Gigabyte GeForce 6800 Ultra
Gigabyte 3D Rocket Cooler-Pro
Aspire 520W Power Supply

TOTAL = $1,621 (+shipping)
(Price replacing 6800U with 6800GT = $1,327)

I recently made a new wishlist that contained the following:

Gigabyte GV-3D1 (Dual 6600GT GPU + GA-K8NXP-SLI MB)
AMD Athlon 64 FX-55
Gigabyte 3D Rocket Cooler-Pro
Aspire 520W Power Supply

TOTAL = $1,430 (+shipping)

I am really considering the GV-3D1 option. It comes with the board that I want anyways as well as a cheaper solution for GPU's for the time being (room to upgrade with 1 or 2 cards in the future by replacing the dual card). I think that this setup performs well according to benchmarks that I have seen. It would be basically sacrificing video performace for a top of the line processor (which IMHO is more expensive to upgrade to later).

Let me know if I'm crazy, stupid.......genius.

Don't get the second one; dual 6600gt's are worse than a 6800gt, but with the 6800gt you can add a second one later. Also the FX-55 is a complete waste of money.

Get the first one, but get 6800gt's instead of ultras, drop the 3D rocket cooler, and get a different power supply. 6800gt's cost a lot less than the ultras and aren't much worse at all. The gigabyte cooler probably isn't any better than the stock one, so no use getting that. I personally wouldn't trust an aspire PS on a system like that. Try and get one that has 26+ amps on the 12v rail and is from a well known, quality manufacturer.

:thumbsup:

Option 1 with 6800gts is the best idea of those options.

Like cheesepoofs said though, get a better powersupply. Something like a Seasonic, Antec, OCZ, Enermax that's 500watts or more.

I would get this one but there are plenty of good options.
