Thinking about getting the following starter kit.
Computer Geeks starter kit

Does that seem like a hot deal?

I'm going to add a DVD burner.
What else do I need to complete this systerm?

CPU: Suggestions? (Prices)
RAM: Suggestions? (Prices)
HD: 160 GB Seagate (found one cheap)
Expansion Cards: Suggestions? (prices)
Monitor: already have one (15" CRT)

My nieces (6, 4, and 2) will be using this set-up through their early school years. So no graphics heavy gaming or anything serious will be done with this computer. Just internet and kids games. My brother wanted the DVD burner for himself. What do you think?

That doesn't look so fantastic to me. "New and refurbished?" Generic power supply? ~ eeek!

My suggestion for a starting point:
  • Antec SLK3700AMB case with Antec SL350 power supply
  • Shuttle MN31N motherboard with SoundStorm audio and GeForce4MX video (dual-monitor ready, even)
  • Crucial PC2100 memory
  • Retail-boxed AthlonXP in the 1800+ to 2400+ range
Expansion cards... none needed, unless you want a 56k modem or a TV-tuner card or something.
