I am thinking of purchasing a scanner mostly with the intention of scanning the chapter i am on in my textbooks and only carrying my laptop. Carrying 5 engineering books gets freaking heavy especially when riding a bike 10 miles to school and then walking around campus.(Texas A&M, huge campus) I would like a fast text scanner, but i also want to go back and scan all of my baby photos which are starting to turn yellow. It needs to scan to .pdf in windows xp or work with osx. Most of the chapters are from 40-60 pages and i would like to be able to do the scanning for all my classes in a day, so i need something that is quick for text and is still readable. USB 2.0 seems to be the way to go since it will be backwards compatible on my mac. i really dont know the difference in scanners except my parents have a $3000 one in their office that is incredibly fast. I think its a fujitsu, but anyways.

Any suggestions. Oh and i would like to pay around $150 since that was about the average of what best buy and office max offered. Any brands should i stay away from?
