Need help deciding: Canon s95 vs Panasonic DMC-LX5

I'm looking for a camera that is relatively powerful yet portable enough to fit in my pocket or small bag. I'm not ready for a DSLR yet but would like some of the options to play around with.

I've been looking at the Canon s95 and the LX5 and could use some recommendations. The Canon G12 might also be an option but i definitely don't want to go any bigger than that.

I like the s95 for it's portability but i also like the slightly bigger LX5 for its Leica lens. Is there anything else out there that's comparable to the two?

Thanks.

the new olympus might be the best of the top end compact cameras. it's a tad bigger than the LX, though not as big as the G series. can take olympus's excellent EVF accessory. brighter lens than the panasonic, and the first olympus compact camera with their zuiko lens brand.

I thought the S95 is slightly smaller, and shoots ever-so-slightly faster in continuous mode compared to the LX5?

I chose the LX5 over the S95 as most of my photography is outdoors and I wanted the ability to attach a polarizer. The electronic viewfinder is also a huge plus for the LX5 in bright sunlight. The LX5 is also compatible with my old Vivitar M/P/O flash so for the price of a cord I have off camera flash. I also ended up using the aspect ratio switch quite a bit more than I expected.

I had the battle between LX3 and Cannon S90 and went with the Panasonic really for the 24mm lens as spec wise and quality are relatively similar. Really it comes down to if you really value the wider lens and macro capability over the far more portable S95.

I'm aware there were a few changes with both the updates, but they are really still very hard to choose between.

In the end, they are both fantastic cameras and you'll be happy with the choice.
