Need help covering my tracks

So I am at college and yes I did something against their policy by downloading copywrited material but still the fact of the matter is they are charging me $70 to bring my computer in so they can look at it to see if I have any material on their and then they will delete it for me.
Ok so I am SOL on the $70 but I still want to fight my case in our judical system because they might cut off my internet for a whole month and I might die so I am just telling them some elese DL'd the torrent (they only know about one) while I was away from school.
So what I am asking all you out their is what is the best way to cover my tracks so they don't know about any thing else I DL'd. I was thinking a complete reformat would that do the trick? Also Could you please tell me any other options I have short of reformatting because I'm not sure if I can find my windows disk. Thank you.

Edit let me correct something the $70 isn't a fine per say its a processing fee

Say it is broken or reformat it an put all the stuff back to make it seem like nothing download and that is if they find traces say I stoped downlaoding Becuse I did nto want to get introble and clear your cmos or get a new hd at a store the chepest one use it for the inspection

Please don't take the holy then thou spot please I'm sure most if not all ppl have DL'd copywrited material b4 I'm not saying its right but please don't condem me.

If you're going to download anything else that is "copyrighted", perhaps a decent spelling and grammar checker would be in order. And to think the OP is a college student. 😕

1) I do not promote the downloading of copywrited material..

On that note...
When are you supposed to take your system in to be "looked" at??
if time permits, i'd say perform a "write zero" to the drive about six to seven times.. If the drive is fairly small, it will not take that long

Clone your drive onto another hdd,

format and reinstall xp - make it slow and lumpy - if they know anything, they will be able to tell you reformatted, but you could uninstall and delete everything that you think shouldn't be there.
Then copy the cloned image back to the drive - fully recommend ACRONIS True Image - but you will need another hdd, or you could clone onto the same drive, and password it.

But I am holier than thou 🙂

Aside from reformatting or buying a new hard drive, your best bet is to just bring in the computer and let them delete your furry films.

The university tech doesn't work for the MPAA so he doesn't care about helping them, just about enforcing university policy enough to keep the MPAA off their back.

If it's just a University tech just delete the files with and wipe the free space with Eraser 5.7. I mean some NASA techies aren't going to come in and try to scrutinize your HDD and report it to the RIAA/MPAA are they?

Is it just me or is anyone else questioning the legality of the OP's school requiring him to bring his PC in? Granted, DLing torrents (movies) is more than likely against the University's policy (one can only download so many Linux distros...), but, it is still his machine. To my knowledge, when I lived in the University of Minnesota dorms, all they could do was suspend your internet access for a certain amount of time.

I really don't think your University should be allowed to take a stroll around your HD...

Bite the bullet, You screwed yourself when you started downloading copy righted material. WHen i was in the dorms, i got my interenet revoked for the weekend cuase of my illegal downloading ways. I deleted the stuff, told the Help Desk that i removed everything, and then kept the guy on the phone for about anohter 10-15 mintues asking questions about how to prevent any p2p programs from sharing files. Not that i didn't already know what to do.

Bite the bullit, you are the oen that screwed up. Fess to it, apologize nicely and take the loss of your internet privs like a man !!

lol, sooooo many are quick to call him out for "stealing" but you all know you did it...and a lot i might add. just toss your hdd down a stairwell then take it in for their "inspection".

just to be sure the best thing to do is format your hardrive and reinstall windows. u can do this with your windows installation cd ....also theres a program called eraser, type in "eraser" in google and the first result is the link. no matter what you do dont listen to these idiots who act like they've never downloaded a mp3 b4......

What. we dled something copyrighted and have to pay $70 for it?...
He stole, he is now on suspicion, I say they let him off easy, pay the fine.
Just throw out your freakin hard drive, or reformat the partition several times.
