Ive recently replaced my GEFORCE 2 MX 400 with an ASUS GEFORCE 4 TI 4600
Ive also added a SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY PLAYER to replace my onboard sound

The problem is ........that lots of games keep locking up my system (usually graphically demanding games)
Could the fact that I only have a 300WATT power supply be the problem ????

SPECS............

300 WATT PSU
P4 1.9 GHZ
GEFORCE 4 TI 4600
768 MB PC133 RAM
SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY PLAYER
40 GB HD
WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION

Please help me..as I dont want to shell out for a new psu if thats not the problem......

COULD IT BE MY PSU ?????? THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Only thing wattage means is that you can add more componets to your computer, HDD, CD-ROM, etc....

Did you do a clean install? There might be some driver residue some where that is causing the problems.

300W is cutting it close for that cpu and graphics card combo. Try to find the 3.3v + 5v combined rating on it. If the 3.3+5v rails are rated at less than 180W then your PSU can very easily be the culprit. If that's not it then check your ram sticks with memdoc. I had a memory module go bad on me recently which caused lockups and bsod playing BF1942. Ran memdoc and voila the speaker started buzzing notifying me the test failed and I removed the offending DIMM. I haven't had one crash yet with that game since then and not one hiccup with win2k either :)

And of course make sure your sound and video drivers are up to date :)

Tequila has some good advice.

If however ram/psu are not the culprit, the next thing to look out for is heat problems.
