Need help cooling a Pentium III.

:frown: HELP! I recently got a Pentium III 600MHz chip with a ABit BE6 mobo. My problem is keeping the processor cool. I have a cooling master fan, but according to the BIOS, the temp is around 100! That seems a little high to me. And the system starts freezing and really acting slow when it gets that hot. I have tried everything I can think of, and nothing helps. Which way should the fan be blowing that's attached to the chip by the way? The fan is blowing the air twords the chip, but turning it the other way doesn't help. The core voltage is set to 1.65, and that is correct according to what I have found. What would happen if I set it lower? The only way I can monitor the temp is through the BIOS and the chip is around 100 or more and the system temp is around 90. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it!

Your case is too darn hot.... Try getting some more air movement in there/ deffinately more exhaust, you can't get the cpu cooler if the surrounding air is hot.

But the side of the case is off and it still gets in the 100 range. When it gets to 111 the thing starts screaming (some buzzing sound).

Check to make sure your heatsink is on properly.
The p3 is a very cool running chip.( even with stock fan )
