I am fairly new to Win2K and would like to know if there is a similar option in 2000 to 98's msconfig. I would like to control some unnecessary programs.

There is no msconfig to speak of, but I am assuming you are looking for a program that is not loading from the Startup folder in your Start Menu. Those programs would be located in the Services Management Console. Open Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services and go down through the list until you find the one you are looking for. Stop the service if it's started and then set it to Disabled to prevent it from starting up at startup. You can also leave it set to manual if you think that you might need. Win2k will automatically start the service if it's called upon when it's set to manual. Hope that helps.

If you have access to a Win98 machine, simpy copy the msconfig file over to your Win2000 machine. It either goes in the \Winnt\system or \winnt\system32 directory, sorry can't remember which. When you run it, there will be about 3 error messages, ignore those. It'll then appear with the familar msconfig panes. Select the Startup tab and you're back in business.
