Hey guys,

This problem is a little difficult because it's my fiance having the problem, not me. And she's in Tucson, AZ for a conference, while I am in Columbus, OH. Thus, the computer is not in front of me.

She's staying at a hotel with wireless access in each room. The network apparently does not require a username or password. The technophebes behind the counter said "it just works." When Janelle visited the lobby to try to get one of the morons behind the counter to help her, she saw someone else using the network. He said that his wireless card is built in, and "the network just works." His room is next to hers and it works there.

She could not find a signal in the lobby, but he did.

I talked her through the basic wireless setup, but the card could not find any wireless networks.

The same thing happened to me at Christmas when I set up her family's wireless network. I couldn't access it, my computer couldn't find the network, but after messing with it for awhile, I clicked on something and suddenly the network (and a couple others) popped right up. I know I could do it again if I had the computer in front of me, but I don't.

Can anyone help, or perhaps send me somewhere where they tell how to do it? We miss each other and would like to talk on IM. She's bored stiff and said she would kill herself if she had to go without the internet all week.

Thanks!

Is she using the Windows built in wireless client? If so, open it up, go to Advanced and then in there somewhere is an option to Connect to Non Preferred networks automatically. Turn that ON. Then there's somewhere with 3 radio buttons and the top one should be checked for Access Points. *shrug*
