need HELP connecting my laptop to TV through s-video

not sure if this is the right place, but I have tried googling around, but still it is not working. I have a Dell 600m (ati 9000 M) and I tried connecting my laptop to the TV using a svideo cable, from the laptop to the TV, but I can't get it work. I tried going through video mode 1,2, and 3 on the TV, but nothing shows up, just a black screen. I went to settings->advanced->displays and it shows up that there is a connection to the TV, and i clicked the blue thing icon to activate it and made it the primary display, i tried messing with displays 1 and 2, but im getting nothing on the TV. please help!

I don't know what kind of TV you have, but I've used a TV before that you had to go under the TV settings to tell it to use the S-Video input instead of the RCA input for whatever video channel it is hooked up too. You would think the TV would auto sense the S-video plugged in, but this model (I can't recall what it is) didn't.
