My parents have SBC Yahoo DSL service, a DSL modem connected by ethernet and they use SBC software to login. I bring my desktop and laptop over and I want to use a D-Link router to have both desktops connected by ethernet and the laptop wirelessly all sharing the DSL connection. The problem is I can't seem to get the router set up. I tried setting it to PPPoE and using their login/password, but nothing happens. The strange thing is if I set it to Dynamic IP, my desktop works just fine, but the parents computer and laptop don't. The Internet light on the DSL modem is lit, so I assume the modem is connected to SBC just fine, so how come my computer can get through the router but the other 2 don't? I am really confused, does anyone have any ideas for things I can try?

Bridge the modem and then configure PPPoE on the router. The modem is currently handling PPPoE and will only lease 1 ip to the LAN side.
Theoretically, you can leave the wan of the router on dynamice/dhcp and you should be okay too (with the internet light on). Seimens speedstream modems have a GUI you can change settings on.

I would recommend the bridging the modem and PPPoE on the router.

It turns out the password I was using when setting up PPPoE on the router was incorrect. Everything is working fine now, but thanks for the reply anyway.
