need help. connected to router = weird activity

Hi all, I just connected my comp to the router to gain access to our shared cable ISP. I just plugged the cables in and I was almost immediately able to access the internet with IE. The weirdness however is that no other programs can access the internet. Counter Strike, Norton... nothing. Only IE. I'm using Win2000Pro. Any ideas to fix this? Thanks.
 
what type of router is it? check to see if the router has certain ports blocked... if it does unblock the ports you need to access.
 
Hi. It's a linksys 8 port router. My friends have already connected their computers to the router and theirs work perfectly, no problems. Mines just won't programs other than IE access the net. Is there some type of net watcher/ software firewall that is within Win2k? thanks.
