Need help configuring home network.. Two routers.. Issues.. Help Please.

So here is my current setup.. I have my internet feed coming into my basement (cable).. In that closet I have a D-Link DIR-655.. It's setup to do DHCP and it's address is .1..

On my main floor I have an OBI100 for VOIP.. Since it needs to be hard wired I have a run coming from my basement DIR-655 to a jack in my living room. Then I go from my jack to another DIR-655 (Main Floor DIR-655) Lan's port..

I use the main floor's router for my main wifi access.. I don't enable DHCP on it and I give it an IP of .2.. The basement router is still my gateway for everything and it is doing the DHCP..

I've been having issues for a while now with my devices getting disconnected, staying connected but unable to ping either router, etc.. I thought it was my main floor router so I got another one.. Same issues..

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here but would like some guidance, please..

Summary:

Basement Router - DIR-655
Internet feed comes into WAN port.
IP is 192.168.0.1
It is DHCP Server

Main Floor Router - DIR-655
95% of devices connect to it for wifi as it's better signal..
IP is 192.168.0.2
Lan port on this router connects to a lan port of basement router.
OBD100 is plugged into Lan port of this router..
DHCP Not enabled

I have 2 laptops, 2 desktops, 2 tablets, 2 phones, and 3 wifi cameras..

It doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong, besides getting the DIR-655.
When a device on the MR goes offline, can you still enter the router's admin interface, and see what it is doing, or, has it locked up ?
Have you enabled logging, and check those logs ?
Are you using the latest firmware ?

For what it is worth, Dlink's forums (and others) are full of people having the same issues with wireless dropouts.

are you giving them their own channels? are the ssid names the same?

No.. I haven't specified any channels on either and each has their own SSID.

When I can't get online but it stills shows I'm connected I can't ping or access either router. My basement router has the latest firmware (recently upgraded it) and the new one I just got this week and haven't checked yet.. But having same issues as before with the same basement router and am anker main floor.

I'll turn on some more logging as well.

When that happens, I assume you need to reboot it, before it starts to work again?
Are you also using mixed band, if so, have you tried setting it to only n or g ? ( I assume all your devices can use those obviously)

Your setup seems good though it may help to manually assign the second router a static IP address outside the DHCP range set on the primary router.

OK so I need to get this fixed.. I'm rebooting my router(s) almost daily and it's a major PITA..

What makes it worse is that I use a OBI100 so when my internet is jacked the wife complains about the phones..

I seem to have issues when I download stuff off usenet (utilizing my full pipe) and I do that daily.. Not sure if that's related or not though..

It seems like DNS gets jacked but what's weird is I put static DNS servers in my laptop (8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.2) yet my system event log has tons of these:

Name resolution for the name safebrowsing.google.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

Both are set to automatic channel scan (one is on 1 and the other is on 11).. Both are set to mixed (n,g,b)..

The logs on the router don't really mean anything to me / point to anything..

If anyone has any ideas.. This router has an average of 4 stars with over 2,300 reviews.. How can it be this bad??

Actually, I was having these same exact issues and I had a different router in my living room.. I thought that was the issue (because the kids cracked the antennas) so I bought another DIR655.. Maybe it's the basement one that is jacked?
