Need help complying with Newegg RMA procedures

I'm returning some memory I bought because I made the mistake of ordering the wrong configuration (4x4 GB instead of 2x8 GB) of the same make/model.

I received the memory in a padded mailer with a simple packing list.

For return procedure, should I just place the memory (still unopened) back into the padded mailer and try to tape it shut, or should I place everything (memory in mailer) inside another cardboard box?

Also, now that I have the UPS mailing label, do I need to pay any mind to how it's affixed to the outside? Do I need to have anything else written on the outside of the package? Should anything else be included inside the package save for the memory and packing slip?

This is my first RMA and I don't want to mess this up.

Thanks.

If you feel reusing the original packaging will get it back safely then go ahead
If shipping label does not have the RMA number then I'd print out the email with the RMA info and place inside package.

Not rocket science here.

The shipping label has the RMA number in the attention line.

So as long as everything is in a "safe" packaging condition, that's all I need to do?

You know, newegg gives you full detailed instructions on the RMA page. They also email it to you.

I believe they ask for a copy of the RMA to be placed in the package, not the packing slip.

I'm glad you mentioned that.

I just caught an email they sent me which instructs this, but is not outlined at all in the RMA section of your account.

1) I don't have speakers at work.

2) I read those already. The FAQ specifically doesn't mention anything about including an RMA notice inside the packaging when returning your items.

I always include a copy of the RMA. Yes its printed on the outside but the package could be damaged, person opening it could tear the label, whatever. Seeing how high volume RMAs get processed first hand, I try to make it as easy on the person as possible.

For RAM I would use the anti static bag and place it in a box for shipping, not an envelope. Use newspaper for filler as it doesn't conduct.

Do you ever get the feeling that people just post "stock" questions to our site just to see what the response time is? We get a TON of repeat noob questions around here.

I wondering if maybe they're spammers, trying to figure out the best time to post advertising spam. You know... so they can get the maximum display time before the mods delete it.

I never actually removed the RAM from the packaging. I opened up the padded mailer and said, "Nope."

I just put everything back in the padded mailer as it was, and then put inside of another cardboard box I had lying around from a previous Newegg order.

Hello Biggiesized,

Please feel free to email us at wecare@newegg.com and reference this post if you have any questions regarding your RMA. We would be happy to help!

Thank you,
Newegg Support

I thought about PM'ing you, but your account hadn't logged in since 10/11/14 and I didn't know how active you were on this forum.

I ended up including my RMA email from Newegg when taping everything up.

My shipping label from UPS already had the RMA number on it, but I included the Newegg RMA barcode (from the email) as well. The UPS guy just shoved both into the protective sleeve.

I suggest the RMA FAQ be amended to have a simple 1, 2, 3 checklist of steps you need to take to insure your return packaging is "RMA compliant." It could go something like this:

1) Gather all original items/materials from your order.
2) Pack them back up in the original shipping enclosure or a new one. Be sure to enclose a printed copy of your RMA email.
3) Seal your package and affix the UPS label and RMA barcode on the outside. Drop off at nearest UPS location.

Also, can I email/PM you about another issue if it is unresolved by customer support? A lady I spoke with said her system was offline and she would email me later.
