I'm setting up a server for my work. it will be running redhat 7.2. I decided on a raid 5 setup and the promise sx6000. I'll be using 3 maxtor 80GB HD for the raid and a single 40GB for operating system. I'll also be putting in a gigabit nic.

Now I need to decide on a motherboard. Cheap and stable. I'm willing to go either AMD or Intel. I don't need onboard raid or video or sound.

What do you recommend?

Here are three mb that would fit your needs. They are all based on th VIAKT333 chipset. AMD is as fast or faster in most cases and alot cheaper.

Shuttle AK35GT2 - It is a good cheap stable mb. One nice feature is that is has 4 DIMM slots which can offer more expandability.

ABIT KX7-333 - A good mb...nothing fancy. It also has 4 DIMM slots.

Asus VIA A7V333 KT333 - A very good mb if you are willing to pay the $120 compared to $95 and $73. It only has 3 DIMM slots. This is a downside, but it does not really matter since the other require are rarely stable with all four slots filled. It is also one of the few mb that can read the AMD CPU temp and throttle the CPU. It aslo has variable speed fan control. A nice feature.

The above are all single CPU mb. If you are wanting a dual CPU system I would look at the TYAN Tiger MP (S2460) K7 AMD 760MP. It is a good and realitivly cheap for a dual board.

Good luck
