Need help choosing SATA hard drive

Get the Seagate SATA drives. They are true SATA drives where most others are only IDE drives with an SATA chip bridge, not native, true SATA drives. I have a pair of those Seagates in RAID 0 and they are nice.

orrrrrrrr you could get 2 raptors that would slap the (bad word censored) out of those, i mean seriously who needs 500 gigs worth of space :\ i have 74 gig now and ive never filled it over half way, and i dl movies and games all day long.

if you can't fill 74gb of space you aren't really trying. 🙂 i'm running the hitachi 7k250 and i'm very happy with it.

I would get the seagate drives, but the size i want they dont have or they are too expensive for me right now.

As for gettting 2 raptors instead I would like the speed that they offer but they are too small...I need the 500 GB for space because the 372GB of space i have right now is just about full >50GB of drive space free. And what I do have left is filling up fast.

Another reason for so much space is that while this is also my main system it also acts like a file server/ multimedia server/ Game server/ mass storage server. for some of the other computers on my network and for a few friends.

I am leaning to the Hitachi Drives because they a tad faster and a little cheaper, but I dont want a deathstar. Does any one know how well they drives work and will I have to replace them a few months to a year after I get them?

I know the new Hitachis are improved, but i still don't trust them.

WD for me.

Can't speak for the WD, but I've been running a Hitachi 250 for a little while now, and have to say it's pretty nice and has yet to blow up the 4 times my old 75gxp did 🙂

Hitachi 7k250 vote here! 🙂

It's fast and very quiet. Now time will only tell on the durability of these suckers. I just hope they fixed all the bugs from the ol Desk(death)stars from IBM.
