Hi everyone. My beloved Viewsonic VP930b just died on me. I need some recommendations on what to replace it with. I have already looked at the LCD thread, but I still need some help. I use my computer for basic internet browsing and for creating graphics and digital art as a hobby. I use photoshop and Poser for creating graphics. I was very happy with my previous monitor, other than there was some pretty awful banding in shades of gray. I'm just wondering if I should get the same monitor as a replacement, or get something different - perhaps a widescreen. I need specific brand/model recommendations, as well. I took a look at the LCD thread, under the lcd's for image editing, but some of those are in the $1,000 range and that is more than I want to pay. Also, I don't have room for a 24 incher on my desk. 22 inches is about as big as I can go. I'm most concerned with black and other dark colors, because those are the type of colors my graphics/art contain, mostly. Thanks to anyone that can help.

Harvey,

Thank you very much for your help. I really would like to have my original account back. I've sent you a pm.

Sooo... anyone have any recs for an LCD? Pretty please? ;) I'm considering the 22-inch Acer that was reviewed here at Anandtech, because it's available locally and I could go pick it up tomorrow, rather than wait on something being shipped. I'm nearly going blind having to use my bf's comp with his CRT..lol. I'm so used to my LCD.

Thanks for reading! :)

Well, I'm by no means an expert but NEC MultiSync 20WMGX2 comes to mind. Of the more common TN-panels, maybe you should be looking for the new so called high color gamut LCD's. For now I know only one, and that is Samsung 226CW. Personally I'm waiting for LG's L227WT-PF, should be coming within a month, hopefully.

The Keeper,

Thank you for your reply! I had considered the Nec one you mentioned, but it's still a bit too much money for me to spend this close to Christmas. Trying to save as much as I can. I looked around and realized that any of the panels that are ideal for graphics work were probably going to be above my budget. So I guess I'm going to have to make do with a TN panel. I went to the shop today and had look at the Acer one I mentioned, and it looked good to me (plus it was on sale). I looked at the 22 inch WS and the 20 inch WS. Actually prefered the 20 inch because the text was sharper. Anyhow, i bought the 20 inch and when i got it home, i realized the man gave me the wrong damn monitor (he gave me the regular 20 inch rather than the WS one). I'm really hoping he just made an honest mistake and wasn't trying to rip me off, because the one he gave me is inferior to the one I chose from the display. I'll be exchanging it on Monday, but it kinda sucks because the place is an hour away. I've got the worst luck.. lol.
