Need help choosing graphics card!!!

Hi, I will be putting a PC together by myself for the first time, with:

1.4 GHz T-Bird
Asus A7M266 mobo
Turtle Beach sound
Windows 2K
1024MB ram (2x512 DDR)

If I use primarily Adobe products such as Illustrator, Photoshop and **Premiere** for DV/video editing, what card is a moderately priced, very good video card to use with the above software? How about the Hercules 3D Prophet Kyro II 4500 64MB ???

Any help is appreciated !!!

The choice is very simply. Go for the Radeon 64MB DDR card for less than $150. Gives you beautifull 2d on the Adobe products for photo and video editing (I use the same set of products). You also have Video In/Out option (Even S-Video out) on the card.

And when you do feel like playing a game or two, the card will keep pace with the best in the industry on all top games.

If you're just going to be using it with the Adobe software, you need a Matrox G550. Like Meatball said though, don't plan on playing games with it. The Radeon would be best if you plan on using the machine for playing recent games.

It depends if you wanted video inputs in the card itself, or planned to input the video by firewire or some other source. If you want the inputs, the Radeon 64MB VIVO (DDR variant) is a good choice for 2D, according to Anand. That said, if you dont want video inputs and really want a good deal get the Radeon LE at Neweggfor $74 which has the same 2D quality with only slightly lower clocked core/memory that most people overclock with software, but the gains are only noticed in games. Of course Matrox is highly regarded for 2D, so that wouldnt be a bad choice at all.
