Hi all. I'm giving my hubby all the needed parts for him to build his own gaming rig. I have the GTX 770 Dual Classified ACX but now with the new GTX 970 I'm thinking if I should exchange it for it. I was looking at the GTX 970 FTW. So I was hoping you guys here can help me in deciding what to do.

Thanks!😕

If you can exchange it then do so or better yet get the 980.

If you want to put out some cash, what is the budget? are used cards okay for him?

How much more $$ will it cost? He surely will NOT be upset if you get him a GTX970 instead of the 770:biggrin:

PS May I have my wife talk to you?:awe:

This is a surprise birthday gift. I another reply I posted my build so far. Will like some feedback of it. he has talked about the GTX 970 thats why Im thinking about the exchange.
And yes you can have your wife talk with me, lol.

Thank you just kidding. Great surprise.

My wife of nearly 41 yrs is GREAT. I don't ask her about her Talbot's purchases and she turns her head away and giggles when another Newegg box shows up🙂

This is what I have so far:

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core/ Cooler Master Seidon 240M 86.2 CFM Liquid. Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming G1 WIFI-BK ATX LGA1150 / Patriot Viper 3 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133/ Corsair Force LX Series 256GB 2.5" SSD/Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM/EVGA GeForce GTX 770 4GB Dual Classified ACX/Cooler Master HAF X ATX Full Tower/ EVGA 1000W ATX12V/ Asus BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer / Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

How much will it cost you to step-up to the 970 FTW? I'm assuming you got the 770 before the price cuts, meaning it shouldn't cost you much at all.

I bought on Sep 10 so it was 419.99 at that time. Don't know right now how much will cost me if I do the step up. Have to find out.

Assuming we are talking USD, you will only have to pay return shipping to step-up to the 970FTW, since it's price is lower than what you paid. Unfortunately, they won't credit the difference. You could step-up to a 980, but not sure if you want to pay that much. Sounds like you are outside the return window for the 770 for most retailers, and you'll be lucky to get $300 selling it on someplace like eBay...

Diomar, that is an OUTSTANDING setup. Opt for the GTX970 so long as you don't lose too much. The GTX970 is the hottest new card out there. The GTX980 is slightly better but @$150 more than you paid for the 770.

I have a GTX780 Classified and it's a beast but the GTX980 Classified will probably not be out for awhile and will be super expensive.

To assist you, here is the Anantech benchmark link comparing the GTX770 to the GTX970:

You need to register the 770 card with evga. See if they will include the extended warranty into the transfer costs. Try to get the GTX 970 FTW in order to minimize the price gap between what you paid for the 770 ($420.) and what the top tier Evga FTW 970 msrp's for ($370.)

I already registered it with EVGA. Well I got the presequel of Borderland with the card so I won't be loosing too much. I got today the ASUS VG248QE for the build so I hope thats a good monitor.
