Hi, I need some help choosing computer parts since this is the first time I'm trying to do this...

1. I will be using my computer for basic tasks such as word processing, watching movies, programming. But I'll also use it for video editing with Adobe After Effects and encode videos.

2. By budget's roughly around 1000 Euros but it'd be nice if it'd stay as a 3 digit number.

3. I'll be buying my parts for Belgium because I can get tax discounts. The site I'm using is http://www.vdhsoft.be/

4. I mainly prefer Intel...

5. I'll be running the system at default speeds but if overclocking a bit won't do any harm I might attempt to do it

6. I'd like to constantly upgrade my computer whenever I need.

7. I will probably be running Windows XP or Ubuntu, but I would like it to be vista compatible just in case

8. I'll be multitasking ALOT. Most of the time I have more than 10 firefox tabs open, photoshop, editplus, MSN, skype, google talk, a few other programs on at the same time

The following are the parts I chose so far:

1. Motherboard: ASUS P5N32-E SLI - s775(http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp28/28908.htm)
or P5K3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP(http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp28/28896.htm)

2. Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 s775 8Mb - Boxed (http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp28/28764.htm)
3. PSU: Aopen Voeding 700W ATX 24p. - Silent - Retail(http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp29/29374.htm))
4. CPU Cooler: Zalman 9500-AT Silent - s775 (http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp27/27366.htm)
5. HDD: Samsung SpinPoint 750 Gb - 7200 RPM - 32Mb - SATA2 http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp30/30458.htm)
6. DVD-RW: Samsung SH-S203D DVD+-R/RW/DL SATA - Black - bulk (http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp30/30496.htm)
7. RAM: Corsair 2048Mb DDR2 6400 C4 XMS Twinx Matched Pair (http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp29/29914.htm)
8. PC Case: Antec P182 EU Super Mid Tower Black - No PSU (http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp28/28711.htm)
9. Graphics Card: XFX 7600GT 256 Mb TV-Out 2DVI - PCI-E (http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp28/28841.htm)
10. Wireless Adapter: HP PZ928AA - Wireless A+G PCI Adapter (http://www.vdhsoft.be/sp30/30125.htm) > needed since my room doesn't have the proper outlets

Motherboard products list: http://www.vdhsoft.be/eu/20953.HTM

Help would be much appreciated ! =]

I would have a look at this website http://www.sallandautomatisering.be/ For example, when you look at memory, go to search ( zoeken ) and use this productnummer: 37332 You get 4gb for less money then you are paying for 2gb !!! The same thing for a q6600, it's cheaper even after taxes then at your website, 200 euro's. In other words, your build is looking pretty good, but the prices SUCK.

As for the PSU, do NOT buy that a-open PSU. Honestly, that would be a mistake. Rather get something like this: 42959, 29542, 38299. Using productnummers again btw, so just use search on the sallandwebsite. Yes I know 450-500w might seem low, but honestly, thats allready more then your PC needs. A good 400w unit would be plenty of power.

You could get this cooler instead: 15712 it will suite your needs just fine, and save you 30 euro's. The HDD is nice, they don't have it in stock at salland though. The Case, p182 is very nice as well, once again cheaper at salland. As for the videocard, if you are NOT gaming, never, then you could get something like this: 44844 Most 30-50 euro cards will be just fine.

Now, as for the mobo, the second one, p5k3 would be a good pick, the first one would NOT be. The p5k3 has Wifi onboard btw, so you dont have to buy a wireless adapter !!! At salland it's only 125 AFTER taxes btw.

Hope that helps, succes, or should I say bonne chance ? Not sure if your French/Dutch speaking :p

Thanks for the info, it helped alot :D As for the website you suggested, do they have a shop in Belgium? It has a .be domain so... I live in Belgium and it'd take along time to drive all the way to Holland. Eh, or I could order it over the internet.

Umm. I live in Belgium but I don't speak French or Dutch. I just happen to be living here because of my dad :D

Succes and Bonne Chance both mean good luck :p

And yeah, hard to read that website if you don't speak/read Dutch. But I checked, and yes you can simply order on the website, you have to pay them in advance, just transfer the money from your bankaccount to theirs. Trustworth website btw, and it will all explain itself once you start ordering. Then they'll ship it to you, for 12 euro's, from Holland to Belgium. I also read, that if you have a BTW number, you can order WITHOUT paying the TAX/BTW. I'm not to knowledgeable about all that, so I hope you are, or your dad is.

If you have any questions, you can email them here: verkoop@sallandautomatisering.nl In English should be fine, as most Dutch people speak English to some degree.

Photoshop luvs ram and multiple HDDs = WinV64 if possible.

Adobe Premiere will run parallel threads across those four cores - PS won't (there are, however filters in PS which will run across 2 cores). A faster dual core may be worth looking into.

Some close friends families emigrated to the States from Belgium. Oh, boy! That's some fine lookin' wimmen :)

My friend's telling me to get the X38 chipset for some reason, but I don't know how it's better. The closest motherboard I found has DDR3 memory.... What should I do? :S Sorry, I have so many questions XD

http://www.asus.com/products.a...l1=3&l2=11&l3=572&l4=0

would this support DDR2 as well? This DDR3 business is confusing

Ask your friend why ? You want to stay below 1000 euro's, then go with a p35 chipset. How often do you upgrade btw ? But, no matter what you say, or your friend says, a p35 mobo will be just fine for you.

The asus website is down btw, like always, I hate their website, blegh. DDR3 is very expensive btw, and not worth it at all. Some mobo's support both ddr2 and ddr3, but honestly, x38 isn't worth it, so why bother thinking about it ?

I don't work too heavy with photoshop :D
But if premier and after fx supports quad then i guess that's what i need.

wow, belgium. small world =]

He said it's better because it's just newer.. I don't think he was too sure himself. Oh, and I was thinking of buying a smaller but 10000RPM harddrive since I store all my big files in externals. Would it boot faster with the 10000rpm?

Hmmm, I can't really say yes or no to that, but considering some 750gb HD's, like the samsung you picked, offered equal loading times in games compared to a raptor, a 10k RPM HD you are talking about, I doubt it would boot CONSIDERABLY faster, and wouldn't be worth the extra noise, and having 5 times few capacity.

And x38 is better, to some extent, but p35 is allready very good, so why pay a HUGE price premium for almost ZERO gains ? Your money ...

44094 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.80 GHz 1333 MHz 12 MB Boxed ? 456,00 36 Levertijdindicatie: langer dan 20 werkdagen. -

I noticed there are more Quadcores at the store. It just seems weird that 2.66GHz in Q9450 is just about the same as the 2.40GHz in Q660 in price when even having a larger L2 Cache. But then, the problem is they don't have stock and it says i have to w8 20 days

How is it about the same ? It's a good 80 euro's more expensive ? And it hasn't been released yet as far as I know, although they should be shipping soon. But, I'd just get a q6600, instead of waiting. The q9450 is a 45nm cpu btw, production costs are smaller, so they can sell it for less money whilst maintaining the same margins.

Hmm ok. I think 2.4Ghz quad will be enough... And I could change it to whatever comes out in 2 years :D
Oh and what's the one with the G0 after it? I heard something about one being better or something...

And thanks again for all your help :]

The g0 q6600 is a new stepping, that runs cooler and I think also consumes less power. For 9 euro more I'd grab, especially if you ever decide to overclock, since they overclock better. Oh and, overclocking doesn't do any harm to your PC, so you should REALLY look into it, it's also a lot of fun and not that hard at all. I mean, look at that list, if you overclock your q6600 to 3.0ghz it would more or less give the same performance as that 456,00 euro CPU, the q9550.

If i overclocked, would i have to look into more cooling? I'm just afraid i might mess something up :)

I chose these so far... It's only 664,55 without tax so far so I'm actually kind of worrying if I forgot something... I seem to have everything I had before.

Is stuff from Holland really this cheaper??

Looking great, mobo as well. Prices look good, you MIGHT even be able to find certains things cheaper, but not by much I bet. Some items are also not in stock, and you have to wait 5-10 days. If that's not a problem, I'd order everything.
