Need Help Choosing Between a Q6600 and E6750

I am going to order the components today for a new\upgrade system and I am trying to decide between getting a Q6600 and an E6750.

1. Will not overclock.
2. Will run Windows XP, no one, hardware sites, seems to be recommending Vista yet
3. Main uses: no games, processing video files is probably the most demanding applications I will use. Of course faster is better

I compared the two CPUs using Tom's Hardware CPU charts and overall it seems the Q6600 edges the E6750 in performance but I am not sure what that all means in the real world performance.

What do you think?

Had exactly the same issues. Replaced my E6750 with Q6600. Does not appear to be any faster in routine use but should be superior in encoding/video conversions. The price difference being what it is, go for the Q6600. Make sure you get the G0 version.

I am ordering from Newegg. I just looked and I do not see any mention of "G0" version. Is this important for anything besides overclocking?

Since you are not overclocking I don't think it matters what stepping of the quad core you end up buying. The only difference is that the G0 stepping runs a bit cooler with power savings about 3%. Performance wise they are the same.
Anandtech has a good article on the differences between G0 and B3

If you are doing video encoding tasks definitely get a quad core.
Anandtech again compares a E6850 vs a Q6600 and for encoding tasks the quad core is superior.

check prices on like pricegrabber or something, q6600 comes to about $275 or so. (i think zipzoomfly or mwave were the cheapest? idk i got mine a month ago). the g0 stepping is just a slight improvement over the b3, but shudnt make that much of a difference especially if u dont OC. When i bought my cpu i was also debating between the e6750 and the q6600. get the q6600, its the best bang for your buck cpu out there currently.

After seeing how well the Q6600 compared to the E6850, I ordered the Q6600.
