I've had this comp for around 3 years now and I'm looking to make a few upgrades and I only have around $300~ to spend.

AMD FX-55 processor
2 gigs of ram
ati x800xt AGP:current card:
480w power supply
24" dell monitor & 37" westinghouse 1080p hdtv

I mainly am look to upgrade the video card and if need be the power supply. I've been lookin at the ATI x1950pro on newegg but im not quite sure which one would work best and if i'll need to upgrade my power supply. I will be transferring soon and will be majoring in Industrial Design so I'll be using a lot of 3d rendering programs and I also love to play games (CS:Source). Any help would be great. thx.

here is the LINK to all the x1950pro AGP cards that newegg offers.

upgrading from a x800xt to a x1950pro wouldn't make a significant increase in performance?

why yes it does ... i did exactly that ... my x850xt didn't have anywhere the muscle the x1950p has ... and of course, you get HDR in x1900 series

BTW, i got a HD2900xt ... so my Sapphire X1950p/512M [barely used, never OC'd outside testing] is for sale cheap

and yes, the x1950xt/256M AGP is marginally faster than the AGP x1950p/512M ... but the difference would be slight with the FX series CPU for the overprice premium you have to pay for the xt

EDIT: very likely you will have to upgrade you PS ... you need 30a on the 12v rail and 450w minimum ... also, you are playing at a fairly demanding resolution for x1900 series - nevermind x800 series

How much would you sell me your Sapphire X1950p/512M for and as far as the PS what would that cost around? thanks.

Look at the size of his monitors. He needs more "Ummmph" than the X1900 series if he is going to run native res.

sell it all then buy a new setup. you can sell your ram and get 2 gigs of ddr2 ram and end up with extra cash, you can sell that processor and get an equivalent or better am2 or 775 processor and end up with more cash (cheapest would be get the x2 3600 brisbane and oc), sell your mobo and get w/e board you want, and then get a pci-e video card for cheaper. you'll spend less money and end up with a new system that has an upgrade path.

The man's got a point. DDR RAM sells for ridiculous amounts on ebay these days.
