I'm going to be moving into a new house soon with a couple roomates.

Right now, we're trying to find a TV for our place... I know that the hotdeals forum seems to have deals pretty often, but I don't know enough about TV's to really choose one.

We know we want:
48" +
1080P (Is this necessary? We will be watching HD and playing Xbox360)
<$1000

Other than that... we have no idea where to begin looking.. Could anybody throw me in the right direction?

Edit: Is this any good?

I would look into a Samsung 50" DLP or so for $1000. 1080p isn't necessary unless you're watching blu-ray or hd-dvd. The xbox360 & HD broadcast television is 720p/1080i. And a lot of people can't see the difference, I can but 720p/1080i is good enough for me.

I always thought it was a bad idea to pool in money to buy expensive things for the place. Saves the headaches when things go sour among roommates or when they move out.

I've always had the same philosophy to be honest. We haven't actually moved in together though, yet, and we will probably spend at least a year or two in this place. None of us have a nice TV, yet we all play video games and watch movies, so it seems like the only solution. Luckily all of us have steady jobs and make enough money that this hopefully doesn't become an issue down the road.

You're going to have to increase your budget or drop some of your requirements.

We'll probably see 42" 1080P under $1K by the end of the year (think Westinghouse LCD's) but 47" and up will still be well over $1K.

The closest to your requirements would be something like a Samsung HL-S5087 DLP. It's a generation old (colorwheel instead of LED) but it's 50", 1080P, and not much over $1000.

I just purchased a Samsung 56" LED DLP from amazon for $1968 (almost 600 cheaper than BB or CC) free white glove delivery which was perfect. they called me when it got to a local warehouse and set up a time to deliver unboxed it and everything was perfect. I kept the box just in case "shit happened" which is running perfect 3 weeks strong. The tv is amazing I have direct tv with hd package and a 360. both look great for some reason to my eyes the 360 has a lot more detail than it did on my sammy 36" crt hd. I wanted the 1080p and hdmi cause I watch a lot of movies and plan on getting blue/hd when i get the money. Another note its in an apartment and i'm sitting about 10 feet away and its great. and i feel the dlp has a larger viewing angle than lcd or plasma which is good for more people watching it.

42" LCD 1080p for $1,000 is possible but not 48"
