need help choosing a sound card

I'm building a computer for a friend who wants to do some audio work. It will be an AMD box with some sort of VIA chipset (haven't finalized budget). I'm a little concerned with the SB incompatibilities and I really don't no much about the other options. So all you audiophiles recommend a good sound card. He plans to do some mp3 work and some audio mixing and likes the SB Platinum w/ live drive. Is there something out there w/ simular offerings? Let me know. BTW budget for sound card is approx. $200.

The Hurcules (SP?) is an awsome card.. Comes with somthi like the live drive but better. Search around a little..
 
Santa Cruz or Game Theatre XP

Same chip, just decide if you want the break out box or not.

Everything I said about the Cruz holds true for the GTXP because as I said it's the same chip, just it has a breakout box the Cruz doesn't.
