Need help choosing a new Lcd monitor.

I need to get a new monitor, and I have been searching as much as possible for specs on some good monitors.

I did check out the Dell 2005FPW, which always has all those coupons, but it has a very odd aspect ratio, and people have talked about backlight bleeding on it.

So, I would really appreciate any input on what the people here consider some of the best 19" LCD monitors out there right now.

I would be using it for watching movies, and gaming as well.


Advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

It's a long story, but you either have to choose (MVA: good colors/viewing angle) or TN+Film: minimal motion blur (low response time). Screens with a low response time usually have inferior colors. That's in most cases anyway...and IPS (in-between TN/MVA) panels are fairly rare. One Dell monitor has an IPS panel, but I can't remember which.

I don't know of any models off the top of my head besides the Samsung 930B and Hyundai L90D+ which I hear are good for gaming (both have inferior colors). Right now I'm on a 17" gaming LCD panel (worse colors), but the colors don't look that bad. They've probably improved since I got my LCD too. There are a lot of factors for choosing an LCD...

I'm thinking you'd want a gaming panel (TN+Film) so motion blur won't bother you, though colors will only be acceptable, nothing stunning like the other type of panel (MVA).

The MVA ViewSonic VP191b seems like a good choice for gaming though. It's the first MVA panel I've seen with a half-decent response time (though there are TN+Film panels with even lower). An MVA panel would be better for movies because of better color and viewing angles. You can't go by the response time said by the manufacturer. They bend that figure like there's no tomorrow.

You have the same LCD I have, knight. I guess the colors are supposed to be worse since it is TN but honestly, I am pretty satisfied. I won't be getting a new LCD till they kick ridiculous ass.

NoobieDoobie, I have the Dell 2001FP (or FP2001) and it's simply stunning. I'm not a gamer though so I can't speak for how "quick" is on games.

I need to get a 17"-18", Analog DB15 LCD monitor for my Dad so I'm open for opinions on that. 😉 Anyone know anything about the Rosewill R710E? I can't find any reviews on it and it's only $199 shipped now at NewEgg.

you get used to the odd aspect ratio pretty quickly, and it does rock for movies.

if the backlight bleeding is really bad you can return it, and rebuy next time there is another coupon. i got two, and the backlight bleeding on neither of them was much of a problem. it does show if you have the screen completely black, but i don't notice it in normal use.

plus neither had a dead pixel.

honestly, i don't understand why people opt for more expensive 19" models over 17" models, seeing as how you gain 0 resolution.
