actually im english an i mean pounds sterling, but i have an athlon xp2000 that came with a crappy bog standard 8quid HSF made of what i think is either Alu or Steel.

the other night playing C and C generals online my computer started running dodgy and was on the verge of crashing. a quick look at Fuzzy Logic 4 the CPU temp was nearing 60 degrees Celcius!!!!. this i am told is far too hot.

i have already checked out the zalman 6000 cu something (the flower shaped one) and it looked like the answer but My MSI KT3 Ultra2 main board seems to have the chip placed the wrong way round for this cooler and there are capacitors very close to the HSF. also the main board power connector is to the left of the HSF so that means the power connector leads trail over the HSF!

i need something that will keep it nice n cool while playing and that will also allow me to OC the chip.

any hadvice will be much appreciated. ;)

Can't see why anyone would want to spend $30-40, when $12. shipped will do it for just about any Athlon at any degree of OC: Linkage .

1) Silence. 26dB? Hah! What if I want <20?
2) Coolness. That HSF is ugly.
3) There is no three, but since everyone knows things come in three's there must be a three.

i find the vantec aeroflows slightly noisy (enough to know that your computer is on from 3 meters away)

speaking of which, ...

for the reason that i can hear my computer when in bed (3-4 meters away), i'm thinking of getting a new HSF. i previously had a really quiet GC68 cooler running with a vantec stealth fan on an AMD 1GHz. That combo has moved to the living room as my home theater PC.

my main system in the bedroom is an XP2000+ running with the vantec aeroflow. i am considering repacements
1. thermalright sk7 + vantec aeroflow or ys-tech adjustable
2. the speeze cooler mentioned here
3. the coolermaster DP5-7JD1B-0L seems interesting,
4. thinking about zalman, ...but not sure about their weight & cost, ..seem noisy 30 - 35dB in normal mode

....has anyone compare any 2 of these coolers in real life, ...that way, maybe i can eliminate some choices

For real quiet, don't go for the coolermaster. They are good at cooling, and now even the cheapest are well machined (they used to be kinda rough on the bottom, now all they lack is a mirror finish), but quiet they aren't.
I can't say for the others (still meticulously(sp) planning my quiet move to an AX-7), but if something like the Aeroflow is too loud, you can strike coolermaster right off.
