Telling someone to buy a 40nm last gen mid range over a current gen 28nm mid range for a whopping $30 savings is just plain bad advice. Now if he is willing to look at the used market as cmdrdredd suggests, that's actually a reasonable suggestion.

Just because not everyone agrees with making a Mantra of the 7850 does not mean I can't have an opposing LEGIT opinion that just happens to be different to the current popular statuesque in the forum of "7850".

What legit reason is there to save 30 dollars by going to a card which is inferior to the 7850?

If he plans to upgrade his monitor down the line 7850 will yield Op better performance. But that's depends on the Op though.Actually after seeing some benches I think a 6870,Gtx 560 would suffice for now.

Now there is some logic I can understand +1 and I will add that a 560, 6870 will or should be good for another 1 to 2 years but only for those on a 1680x1050P monitor which IMHO is still a real decent reZ to game on.

The performance is not similar once that 7850 gets over clocked.

And this might sound silly to some, but GCN is going to be supported sooner/better than VLIW5.
