I'm shopping for a new vid card and need some advice. I went ahead and used the template, so just let me know if you need any other info to help me out. Thanks!

System Specifications:

I. Processor/CPU:

Intel i7 920 @ 2.67 (stock) (probably won't upgrade again until sometime next year)

II. Current Graphics Card:

Sapphire Radeon HD 4870

III. Display Resolution:

22" Dell monitor @ 1680x1050

IV. Power Supply Unit Specification (Brand, Wattage, Ampage, Age). If possible, please provide a link to a website containing the power supply specifications:

Antec HCP-850, less than a year old

V. Case Specifications(N/A, Model, Length, Low Profile, Cooling, HTPC, Water, Silent):

Antec Nine Hundred

Purchase Details:

I.
Budget? Please be sure to include currency (If not USD), retailer preferences & specify whether rebates are a viable option.

Would like to stay under $300, unless there's a major jump in performance for a little more.

II.
Any particular preferences (Manufacturer[nV or AMD], Brand[XFX, Sapphire, EVGA, etc], Cooling Solutions)?

Have had good luck with AMD/ATI previously, but am open to NVIDIA models as well.

III. Do you plan to have any Multi-GPU solutions such as Crossfire or SLI?

No.

IV. Have you previously looked at a product(s) which you feel would fit your needs?

Been looking at both Sapphire and Gigabyte Radeon 7850s, but not sure if that's the best bang for buck.

V. What are your needs for this GPU? Which games(If any)do you intend to play? If you have this information at hand, what are the desired detail levels?

Games: TES V: Skyrim (with HD pack and graphics mods), Max Payne 3, Tribes Ascend, and other FPS and RPG games.

VI. Do you plan on overclocking the card you intend to purchase?

Nice to have the option. Would like good performance out of the box though. Would like to have something that runs on the cooler and quieter side too.

maybe you can find a deal on a GTX 560 or HD6950/6970? Might be someone trying to sell.

Your resolution doesn't necessitate much more than that. the HD 6950 is $230 right now. It's a 2GB card so it will handle your mods and stuff on skyrim pretty well. As I said, 1680x1050 isn't that demanding.

DO NOT UPGRADE NOW..

It would be dragon's head on a snake's body, or a snake's head on a dragon's body next year.

Wait until you've bought a new monitor before you decide on a card.

remember, NOTHING is future proof.

+1 to 7850 2GB. Be sure to OC the crap out of it ;). Also OC your CPU. Given a Hyper 212+ or better, it should be able to OC a bit even on stock volts, and it's possible to get up to 4.0 if you've got a D0 stepping and a particularly good overclocker. I've got my i7 running 3.2ghz (3.36ghz turbo) at 1.2V

Just forget about the 7850 @ 1050P rez and save the coin and put it toward a 560ti instead and the money you saved can be used for Cheezies, BEER and games ect !

Bloomfield runs hot and a Hyper 212+ isn't going to handle 4Ghz

That's pretty bad advice considering the 560 TI is only around $30 less than the 7850. All models of the 560 are way over priced at this point.

$30 bucks is a whole lot of Beer & Cheezies my advice is golden being that a 560ti will be more than enough power for 1050P rez FOR ANY GAME. Plus Nvidia DRIVERS are better.

Your Monitor dosen't require a very powerful card it just supports 1680x1050 pixels.
So EVGA GTX 570 will be more than enough and it pricing $270 - $290 So it's in your budget. if you plan to upgrade your monitor to 1920x1080 pixels this card can handle it as well and it has a good overclocking headroon aswell. So i say EVGA GTX 570 or you can look for other companies for GTX 570 your choice!

No.

The 7850 is so easy to overclock, its basically asking you to do it.

My Asus 7850 DC II ran at 1250/1375 like it was easy, putting it near 7950 performance for $30 more than a 560 Ti. And no, the 560 Ti doesn't O/C as well.

OK

Your either a teenager, or on here to mess with people.

If $30 is a "whole lot of beer", then I'm a major alcoholic.

The 7850 is a better choice, no questions asked.

That being said, the 560 Ti is a great card. I just feel there are better options now.

Thanx for the personal attack but I will let it slide this time. 7850 is a bit more expensive than you need to go for a 1050P reZ end ....

7850 has twice the vram and is much faster, not to mention quieter, cooler and consumes less power. When the time comes and you can't play that game smoothly, you'll be crying about not spending that extra $30 but hey atleast you can drink that beer to wash your sorrows away.

Well the 7850 is not nearly "twice" as fast and I still have yet to max my 1GB Vram out on any of the high end graphical games I own or any of them for that matter @ 1050P. 6950 that I recommended has 2GB Vram so it would be Overkill for OP reZ of only 1050P

There's more than one person lately who has popped up on the forums lately who I would categorize like this.

OP: You'll do well if you keep an eye out on the for sale section. Lots of people upgrading video cards lately and you might find some good deals.

Just because not everyone agrees with making a Mantra of the 7850 does not mean I can't have an opposing LEGIT opinion that just happens to be different to the current popular statuesque in the forum of "7850".
