lol okay its not really a business, but while im in college i want to make SOME money. i am pretty good with computers, so thats what im going to do - fix peoples computers, restore deleted files, etc...

i know 10000000000000 people are wanting to do the same thing, so when i go up there for orientation i want to establish my place ASAP.

i want to make contact easy for my "customers", so i want to make a website. do do that, i need a name.

I'm going to Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. My name is David Cohen.

oh, and the hurricane jokes havent been funny for a while now =D.

Ideas?

why don't you get a job doing it instead? you're never going to provide the level of customer service and availability you'll need to succeed on your own.

I'm not sure you really wanna do this...
You'll be removign spyware, formatting and completely reinstalling peoples computers...
you'll never have any studying (read drinking) time to yourself...

You can use any name you want... Just dont steal mine....

Syntax Error Programming!
(I used to do computer science programming homework for non-computer majors)

heh, you can steal my company's name from when I did the exact same thing at Tulane...Student Computer Services. We were extremely profitable, but this was 7 years ago when most PCs didn't come with builtin NICs and we charged $175 for NIC installation and setup on ResNet to incoming freshmen (undercutting Tulane's service by $50 and we offered same day service compared to their 2-week waiting list).

However, with the dearth of workers in NO right now, you'd be better off getting a part-time job somewhere else, almost everywhere is offering high wages for hourly employees. Fast food chain places were offering $3k signing bonuses and $12/hr. I wouldn't want to do that though if I were you. Check into jobs at the Aquarium or Zoo...they paid well while I was there and may be even paying more now, plus they're fun to work at.

Though you could do hardware and software repairs, spyware removal, etc, I think you could focus on for example, VHS to DVD services. There's tons of older folks with no computer knowledge who want their old VHS tapes into DVDs. Maybe a flat rate per VHS to DVD, with extra fees if they want any menus or whatnot. Once you figure out a good system and software it would be very easy cash. i think something like this is better than just a fixer guy that everyone does. Of course the same people might need some spyware removal too so you could do both, but something a little different (but very useful and in-demand) would set you apart from other people and get you additional business.

i currently work at bestbuy, and i plan on taking a leave of absence for at least my first year instead of transfering to NO. id rather not take a real job and just do this to make a few extra bucks so i can get adjusted for the first semester/year.

i can do the vhs to dvd but i dont wanna leave the campus

i own synth3t1c.com, just to park it in case i become famous :D

fast food - maybe, i dont rly wanta real job, but we will see if that 3k is real!

student computer services would be good, but scs is taken as a domain :(

i own my own business doing the same thing and i am full time student...the key is to undersell...yes your customer service wont be the best (because of scheduling constraints) but people will wait for a good enough price...

i have an ad up in some male dorms...'we get it working after ur done jerkin...' people thought it was so funny they chose us over others....i own :D

Make a side-by-side cost comparison chart vs. BB Geek Squad on your adverts. That'd get attention.

Oh, and if it comes to it, only offer 'best effort' warranty. If you make some kind of solid guarantee, you're going to see the same PC ever week for some new dialer/mailware, and it's going to 'your fault' since you didn't fix it 'right' the first time around.

and my guarentee will be if i dont fix it on the spot, they dont pay. its not a moneyback guarentee, its just a after im done look at it and tell me if it works guarentee.
