It's been a while and I havent kept up with the latest tech in about 5 years. I dont want the latest greatest, But something that will last me for awhile and will run a good video gaming card.

My son tells me I need something with 800 Mhz, AMD processor, AM3+ socket, up to 16GB ddr 3 memory, enough PCI slots to add additional Video cards, Something about crossfire, maybe Asus Brand or good quality

Any suggestions om a motherboard and Video Card

I'm really interested in a motherboard. It gives me a place to start. The video card I can figure out.

Here is the answers to the questions from the link.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Able to run all new games

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

$600 Total, $125 for motherboard, $125 Video Card

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

Asus, Gigabyte, Biostar, for MB. I am open for others.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

No exsisting parts to be used

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

Like going through a maze

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Overclocking would be nice

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.

1080p or equiv

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?

Now

10. Don't ask for a build configuration critique or rating if you are thin skinned.

Just want answers to the questions. No run-around.

I guess a motherboard is a good place to start as you put it. It's just kinda hard to suggest a motherboard for somebody without knowing how much your budget is etc beforehand. I'll play along :)

I guess the first important question would be do you live in a state with a microcenter within driving range? < Best prices on cpu/mb combos 90% of the time.

Your budget looks a little tight. Is the $600 for a complete build as in tower, keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers? Or is it just the tower part?

In the past I used "Pricewatch" to shop for hardware. I dont know what you mean by microcenter. I just need to build a tower.
