Need help choosing a graphics card

I have about a $500 budget and will be upgrading from a gtx 650 1gb. I am just getting into pc gaming and right now I have been playing games like farcry 3, skyrim, and metro 2033. I want something that will give me good graphic without stutter or drop in fps and allow me to mod some of my games.

I also dont want to upgrade to the best just for something bigger and better to come out a week later. I would prefer to stay with nvidia but I am open to other options. I am considering a gtx 660ti 2gb or maybe even a 670 4g. What do you guys think? I have no clue where to begin.

For your budjet I second GTX 770 but I would get 4GB imo or HD 7970GE 3GB if you want the the 4 free games. If you like to oc you could look at the HD 7950 3GB unlocked ones and oc to 7970 performance 4 free games for around $270.00. Look no further than the above for $500.00 or under imo. 🙂

I mean I would prefer not to spend $500 if I don't have to. That's just the most I can spend right now.

Edit: and where do I get a gtx 770 for $500?

Well then you could go with a HD 7950 3/GB (4 free games) and oc it and you will get similar to performance +/- a little to a stock 7970GE and GTX 770 for around $270 per Sapphire 7950. But that is of course comparing to a stock non oc 7970/770. See what others say and then research the cards per reviews and forums and decide what looks best to you, but imo these are the only three cards to look at in your price range for best bang for the buck.

If you going to do video/photo editing and use Cuda supported software then I would just go GTX 770 for sure.

since no one usually bothers to ask around here, you need to list ALL of your specs now too. that includes exact power supply and monitor resolution.

Yeah, what CPU, PSU, etc do you have? If you have to buy a new PSU, or your CPU is not fast enough to take advantage of a 770, then you have to add that into the cost.

Also, 770's here in the US retail for $400.

I plan on upgrading to a 750w corsair PSU when I buy the video card. and I Plan on upgrading My CPU, Motherboard and Monitor at a later time when I have the extra money. I don't want to also have to buy a new GPU later because I was cheap right now.

This is my current set up:
i5 3330 CPU
Gigabyte H77M-d3h
Gtx 650 SC 1G graphics card
8gb ddr3 ram
460w power supply
Gateway 22" LED Monitor 1680x1050

Right now I am using 100% of the GPU and I average about 50-70% of my CPU when I play games.

your percentage on cpu usage does not always mean much. you could be completely cpu limited and barely even using 50% on your quad core cause not all games will use the whole cpu. at 1680x1050 I would say wait and get the 760ti for 300 bucks next month as it will just be a re badged 670 which will easily handle demanding games at 1680x1050. if you must buy now then the 770 looks good.

I mean I plan on upgrading everything soon, I don't plan on waiting longer than two months tops. I want a full 1980x1080 or something like 2048x2048. I can post pics of my stats when im playing a game here shortly, that way you guys can see everything that's going on.

Here is what I was looking at:
