Need help choosing a firewire card, Adaptec 4300 ?

Hi, I have $100 in stacked Amazon GCs that I want to use to purchase a firewire card. I found the Adaptec FireConnect 4300 AFW-4300 1394/FireWire Card for $40, some other cards were cheaper but they were of less quality and I'm not sure if they included a cable (software I don't care about).

Is the Adaptec a good card, I went to Adaptec's website and looked at the specs but it didn't say whether this card used a TI chipset, thats the better chipset right?

Also the FAQ for the card said this:

"Q: Can I adjust the DV compression ratio to cram more video onto my hard disk?

No. DV compression is fixed at 5:1."

Does this mean the quality of video I want is limited? Is this controlled by the software or by the card?

Basically I want to know what chipset this card uses, the compression issue, and if you've seen a better deal on Amazon or somewhere else.

Thanks for your help Omar

A firewire card is pretty much a firewire card, although you're right, people tend to say that the TI chipsets are better. I've had both good and bad luck with TI chipsets, though, and both the Agere and VIA have worked well for me. If you pay $40 for the Adaptec card, you're pretty much just paying for the Adaptec name. I'd say go for one of the cheaper cards on Amazon, personally.
