I've seens some posts and articles about the 3000+ 939 venice overclocking to 2.7 ghz.

So i've pretty much decided on this CPU. Now i need to choose a motherboard and some memory. Dont know which mobo's and memory are the best for this combo. I've overlocked before but i'm not a expert at it.

Right now i have a 3200 120nm 754 CPU and i'm looking to upgrade to PCI express cause my 9800 pro just isnt up to snuff anymore. I see these venice CPU's will run my CPU into the ground.

At stock, there's no way a 3000+ Venice core can beat a socket 754 3200+ (Newcastle?). At stock a 3000+ Venice is 1.8GHz. The 3200+ Newcastle core is 2.2GHz. The only other improvements the Venice cores have is SSE3 support and dual channel memory support. The CPU you have already is a better performer.

Venice is by and far better than Newcastle, but your current CPU should be about on par with the 3000+ at stock. But once you get into overclocking, the Venice's blow away anything in their paths.

but since you need to upgrade (for the GPU) A 3000 Venice is still a good choice. It's the sweet spot.

For the Mobo try the DFI NF4 Ultra-D
For mem look at OCZ value , or Crucial Ballistix

The guys at DFI street always recommend OCZ BH5 (OCZ4001024ELDCGE-K) and TCCD (OCZ4001024ELDCPER2-K). Monarch has the Plat Rev 2 for $147 shipped AR.

If you'll just be gaming, get yourself a high-end AGP video card. You won't notice a huge difference in game FPS even between your 3200+ and a venice clocked at 2.7ghz.

But if you're going for a 7800gt/gtx PCI-E only card, you can't beat an overclocked 3000+ venice for the price! 🙂

Well i thought about just getting an AGP card. But it doesnt make much sense to me. I can take the parts i have now and sell them and get some good money for them still. But if i wait a year or two nobody will want an AGP board.

Battlefield 2 runs slow as hell on my 3200 with 9800pro

If i can get a Venice and overclock it to 2.7 like some of the other people then thats what i wanna do. I can get a 6800GT for 245 dollars shipped. In a few months i might sell it and get a 7800GTX

But right now i wanna play BF 2 and i cant (atleast to the point i'm satisfied)
