need help catching plagarist

I'm in a creative writing workshop, and one of the stories I'm critiquing is only a slightly digested regurgitation of a short story I read a long time ago in my eigth grade english textbook. It's a quasi-science fiction story about a family (whose name is maybe an anagram of saccharine) who go to extreme lengths to avoid water. The twist comes when someone (or maybe all of them?) get wet -- I believe maybe caught in the rain -- and dissolve. At this point you realize they're made of sugar.

Can anyone help me with the title, author, or both? I hate annoying &#$# like this............

I will post again if anything interesting develops. And I hope it does -- this isn't even a GOOD Asimov knockoff lol.

He should write a follow-up: I, Plagiarist.
