Need help - can't open hood!

The battery in my 1991 Chevy Astro is too low to crank the motor. I need to pop the hood to jump the van so I can move it. I pull the hood release and it doensn't pop the hood. The cable looks intact. I can also move the secondary release with a screwdriver. I just can't operate the main hood release. Any tips or tricks I can try. Thanks!

This happens with those vans sometimes. Just keep pushing the hood down and pulling the lever till it pops. Then when it's open spray oil all over the latch assembly.

This reminds me of my previous car. I got an oil change at Econo Lube 'n' Tube and months later I found out my hood wouldn't open anymore. Those unprofessional bastids broke the latch and I had to get it open and fixed by having a mechanic break the grill in front of my car. Needless to say, that oil change was the most expensive oil change I've ever gotten.

Thanks syberscott. Banging down on the hood repeatedly not only got the hood open, it made me feel better too. And, Ranger X, this whole situation with the dead battery and fvked up hood is the result of having a state inspection and serpentine belt replaced!

Grrrr. I hate cars!
