Well, i can...

But only if i use Catalyst 12.4 - the drivers seem to install for both cards, i need 12.4 for the 4200, as AMD split the driver packs at that point, but i'd like to use the latest driver for the 6950 (12.8)

Does anyone know how this would be possible?

Thanks.

The ATI Radeon™ HD 4200 Graphics with the AMD 785G Chipset....

Best solution..... DONT install the drivers for it, Go to Hardware manager, and deactivate the old IGP.
Set primary graphics card (in bios) to the 6950 and just run everything off that.

Sorry man, but it can't be done. AMD has completely removed the code for the pre-5K GPUs in their newer Catalyst drivers. Those GPUs now get their own periodic Catalyst Legacy release, which is based on 12.6.

In any case, there really isn't a good solution here - either you use old drivers or lose the IGP.:(

Is the 4200 the onboard? Are you installing a 6950 into a socket 939? Just disable onboard like the other guys said and update the drivers. If you are using a 939 CPU you are going to be bottlenecked severely.

Sorry, seems this forum isn't sending me any email updates.

Yes, it's onboard, cpu is AM2+, i didn't want to use the 6950 for the second monitor as it's a performance load and i've seen what happens to idle temps when it's running two displays.

That was a kind of sucky update by AMD :( I understand dropping the older drivers out, but to have them all share common files is not a great idea!
