I have a generic board with a Intel 740 chipset only markings are vga 740-8, the intel drivers from their website didn't work.

You tried all the drivers at Intel's developer site? If you did, I doubt the others you'll find will be much different. Good luck though.

the 740 stands for I740, and the -8 must be for 8mb's of ram. What version are the drivers on intels site? I have some old 2.1, 3.0, and "spicy" drivers (2.x?), for win95/98 that i can e-mail you if you want.

The latest Intel and final set of drivers were PV4.1 for the I740 Chipset. Intel has them posted in archives on their site. If you can not get 4.1 to work, try 3.0 and in between. Seems to have more compatibility but less performance for "Generic" type boards.

As far as Manufacturer - Good luck. There were some dubbed the "Picaso" and such from little known companies all but extinct. If the intel drivers wont work, take it to the driver boards or do an FCC# Lookup and go from there.

Good luck - Yet again!

Real3D made i740 cards. They were called Starfighter cards. I don't know if your card is one of them, but here is a link to their drivers.
