Need help...can't figure this out

Ok guys. I'm using offset to OC and I found out my VID is 1.24v. So I set my offset to -.010, LLC to 75%, PLL to 1.6, and my RAM voltage to 1.65. I've already run a memtest for over 8 hours with no errors so I know the RAM is good. When I was running Prime95, my voltage at load was 1.224-1.232v. I would think this should be able to work for 4.5GHz, but I keep failing Prime95. The load voltage is good with that offset...roughly 1.032-1.04v.

I'm running a Prime95 test right now at stock to make sure my CPU is stable. I'm starting to think my RAM is compatible or the motherboard is bad because when I restarted it this morning, the red light next to the RAM came on and I had to use the MemOK! button to get the board to reconfigure the RAM to be able to post. It keeps putting my RAM at 1333MHz when I do that, though. Any suggestions?
 
If these are your memory modules http://gskill.com/products.php?index=493, the SPD is 1333mhz, so that probably explains why it is being reset back to that speed. Why the RAM is being reset, though, is a little odd. The board could be going back to the 'last known working setting' which might be the default settings for your RAM

Question 1: Why so much voltage for your RAM? Per G. Skill, 1.5v should be good for 1333mhz-1600mhz. You might be putting too much voltage on it.

Question 2: Your IMC may need a bump in voltage. Have you tweaked the VCCSA at all? I am not experienced with IB, but the IMC may need a little more juice to stay stable with the core speeds you are at. IB experts can weigh-in here if I am wrong.

Suggestion: Get your rig working 100% at maybe 4.2ghz and use that as a baseline. Then start tweaking to see how temps, voltage, and memory react independently as you push to 4.5ghz. Saving the 4.2 profile and refining as you go also should make it easier if your system reboots with an unstable profile and reverts back.
 
Ok, I'll do that tonight. I'm going to do manual first and once I finally find a working voltage, I'll go back and do offset using that as my basis. I'm not sure what VCCSA or IMC is? And I know the RAM is rated at 1.5v, but it seemed to stop wanting to reset the RAM if I kept the voltage bumped up. I might just have to send the RAM back and get higher speeds, but from what I understand you won't notice real world difference between 1600 and 2133 RAM, only in benchmarks. Maybe I need to OC my RAM? Ugh so many things to take into consideration lol
 
OP you need to start from a stable setup and change one thing at a time. Changing 4 things at once then asking which one is causing the instability is going to get you nowhere fast. Leave the RAM at stock and overclock the CPU, once you find an overclock you are happy with (and that is stable) you can start playing around with RAM voltages.
 
Yeah, I'm probably getting ahead of myself too fast. Tonight, I'll take it slower and do like you said, one thing at a time. I'm going to just work on getting a stable OC somewhere around 4.2 and that should be a good starting point.

Could not agree more!

I like to get RAM rock-solid first so I know any instabilities I see are related to my changing the core freq. Change one variable, test. Then either keep that change or revert back and change the same veriable to a new value, or test a new variable. By systematically testing each on it's own, you know exactly what is causing an issue.

Based on others' experience with IB, a 4.2ghz OC should be very solid and have cool temps. Then you can work yourself up from there and find where your chip balances between temp/performance.

Ok, now help me figure this out...I reset the BIOS to stock settings by doing the Load Optimized Defaults. It's SUPPOSED to clock the processor to 3.9K by default, I THOUGHT. So I started Prime95 this morning and left, totally forgot to look at CPU-Z and all that. My roommate just looked at it told me it's stable at 3.7 right now. WTF? Why is it clocking at 3.7? I did a blend test so that should push it all the way, right???

The Intel Core i7-3770K can hit 3.9GHz when running a single threaded application, which is the highest it can go without overclocking it."
