Need Help! Can't Boot Up!

The other day my power supply started smoking and then failed. I got a new case and power supply today. I installed everything into the new case and when I tried to boot up it hangs and sometimes comes up and says that my computer hung due to improper CPU setting (eventhough its correct). It has boot all the way into windows a few times and then just shuts off. Now it won't boot at all anymore. When I turn on the power all the lights flicker and it sounds like the floppy is making a strange noise. I am at wits end. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It sounds like your motherboard has been damaged by the PS failure..."borrow" (😉)a new one and see if that helps. If not, try a new CPU or other components.

If it still doesn't work, you're comp is likely screwed.🙁

yeh i tink your mobo might be "fried", but would it be possible for you to get into dos mode and try "FDISK"ing your computer and reinstalling?

It sure sounds like more than the PS was damaged. Each manufacturer has diagnostics and troubleshooting guides. Do you have these for your system? When you power on does it count up the memory and let you into the bios settings? Do you hear any beeps (1 is good) during boot? Do you get any error messages or codes? If you do get into bios, does it show information on all your installed components? Can you boot from a windows startup diskette or some other bootable floppy?
