I really need help guys. I can't go into windows anymore and i tried everything i can think of. I can't even reinstall win98.
I have a abit kt7a-raid with duron 700.
I am sorry this is so long, but i want to be detailed.
This is what happened:
I just bought some PC133 ram from crucial, so i want to change my fsb to 133 and do some more overclocking. ( i was running 8*100 with duron 700 cpu)
I played with bunch of settings/speeds. Some worked, and some didn't.
Then I got it to 7.0 * 133 and it booted into windows and everything ran fine. Then i changed it to 7.0*140 to see if i can get more out of it. I would be able to get in windows login screen but i would get some error message right then. So I incrased the voltage to 1.8 to see if it help. i still get the message. after couple more tries, i still get the message at windows login screen. So i decided to go back to the default speed, which is 700 mhz.
Boy was i surprised when i still get the same error screen at the login which won't let me get further into windows!
the error message is this, "Error Starting program:
The shell32.dll file is linked to missing export shlwapi.dll:SHRegGetUSValueA"
i went to Microsoft technet.com's knowledge base, and found it might be a corrupted file. so i went to a very old backup (from 1998) , make backup of those 2 files on the current hard drive and replaced the files shell32.dll and shlwapi.dll (which i later discovered that the 2 shlwapi.dll file have very different file sizes.)
After that, i reboot the machine, and i dont see that error message anymore! I was really happy, until 2 seconds later, when i get another error message, "explorer caused an invalid page fault in explorer.exe at 017f:00401f31"
technet.com said this message might come up when explore.exe is at the root directory. i checked, and the file is NOT in the c:\ direcory, so thats not it.
so i replaced the explorer.exe file. But it doesnt help!
previously when i have some kind of windows 98 problem, i just reinstall it. With win98 Second Edition upgrade CD, you can run setup and it will keep most of the registery and other settings! So i would just run the install and everything would be back to normal. so its really useful when something kept windows not starting.
So i run the boot disk and run setup.exe like i always do.
so at win98 SE setup screen, i press ok with my mouse, and it said to wait for loading some files. Then it would said installation would not continue because it wasn't able to write to the startup drive. then it would have an error code, i think its su0013 or something.
I tried to run setup.exe couple many more times, but same result!
i read the setup.txt file for win98, and the su0013 error code means something like "make sure its not ntfs or HPFS". So i thought, hey is it thinking my partition is not FAT/FAT32? but that can't be it, because i can bootup my PC all the way to windows login screen, i even heard the startup music!
I really dont know what to do. Did something happened when i increased the voltage to 1.8 volts when i overclock, thus damaged some hardware?
or did something happened to windows files?
or did it did something to my hard drive partition?
I really dont want to format my HD, since its a 30 gig hd with 4 partitions, and alot of stuff on it. and its AMD mobo, so that means i have to install 4-in-1 and alot of other drivers
Please let me know if you have ANY idea. because i ran out of all ideas. I really dont want to format it and find out its not windows.
